  1. Oct 08,  · Passin’ Thru was the second and last James Gang album to feature guitarist Domenic Troiano and finds the band in somewhat of a mellower mood than heard during the Joe Walsh era or later albums featuring guitar-god Tommy Bolin. As I like my rock to hit hard and fast, it’s an album that had to grow on me a bit.
  2. Feb 03,  · I can see why The James Gang is viewed by some as "not the James Gang" post-Joe Walsh. If not for Tommy Bolin, I would probably have little to no interest in the post-Walsh output. But, for a fan of Tommy Bolin, this band (whatever you want to call it) is a great way to hear some of his greatness and to explore his talent.

  4. In October released the fifth studio album "Passin' Thru". Once again, the album featured the distinct Kenner/Troiano sound, but the songs sounded more focused and radio-ready than before. In addition, guest musicians from Nashville gave several songs a country feel. Passin' Thru sold modestly and received mixed reviews.
  5. And me, oh God, I'm one. If I had only listened of what my mama said. I'd be at home today. But bein' so young and foolish, my Lord. 6. This two-fer CD combines the James Gang's albums Straight Shooter and Passin' Thru. Originally these LP's were released separately on MCA and had been out of print until being reissued in on Beat Goes On. Neither album can be recommended to anyone but the most ardent fan, as both sessions pale in comparison to the Joe Walsh years.

  8. A jazz rock masterpiece from Colosseum – the kind of record that the British scene could do far far better than any American group at the time! The set is a sweet blend of late beat group grooving – using the heavy R&B-influenced guitar and organ styles of earlier years, and working them into a more open-ended, more improvisational approach that had a surprising amount of soul.
